Dead case rises -Warrant against Sanjiv Bhatt

Jamnagar Sessions court issued a bail able warrant against suspended IPS officer Sanjeev Bhatt,

The warrant was issued in conjunction with a 1990 case relating to a person's death due to alleged police beating, additional Session Judge Solanki issued the warrant after Bhatt failed to appear in the court in Khambhaliya taluka. The alleged incident took place in 1990 when Bhatt was posted as Dy. S P in Jamnagar, and was in-charge of police arrangements in Jam khambhliya area where communal clashes had broken out, it is said that on his orders, police had beaten up some people, causing the death of a man and injuring several others.

The senior IPS officer was recently suspended also; this is to note that Sanjiv Bhatt has accused Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi of misusing the state machinery during 2002 post-Godhra riots.

Public prosecutor Vimal Chotia last month withdrew the petition filed 15 years ago, with this move state govt. is now charging head-on for Sanjiv Bhatt.

Bhatt was suspended by the Gujarat government early this month for gross misconduct, unauthorised absence from duty, misuse of official vehicle and not appearing before departmental inquiry panel
